Bogo Merinos has gained a reputation as one of Australia's most progressive merino studs. We breed profitable performance-based genetics suitable to a wide range of environments and production systems.

The modern Bogo Merino sheep needs to be fertile, structurally sound, with good early growth and doing ability and a moderate adult body size. It must produce lots of fine, long stapled, crimpy, white wool with luster and handle.

“We started using Bogo rams about 20 years ago as we were looking for a more profitable sheep flock with a finer average micron, increased fleece weight with a bright, white staple.

“The results speak for themselves.  Micron measurements have decreased by about 2 while increasing average fleece weight by 1.2kg.  Profitability has increased markedly.  The constitution of the flock is sound and really pleasing, with ewes and progeny thriving in our harsh summers and cold winters.  Although our flock enterprise focusses on high quality Merino wool, a small percentage of the ewe flock is crossed with  White Suffolk rams.  These first cross lambs are highly sought after at our annual circuit sale and have always proven a very profitable sideline.  The feedback from our return buyers has always been very positive as the lambs prove themselves to be a good investment.

“The service from the team at Bogo with classing and advice is always first class, setting breeding objectives and targets which we have been able to attain and surpass.”
